The Kimpton team recently completed a bespoke packaged plant room for Welburn Hall School in North Yorkshire
Welburn Hall School is a North Yorkshire County Council maintained special school and college for children and young people aged 8 to 19 with a wide range of special educational needs, including moderate and severe learning difficulties and complex autism.
Our work was to design, fit and supply a bespoke packaged plant room at 5m x 3.2m to replace one of the existing plant rooms at the school, as part of an overall refurbishment and upgrade project being undertaken. The unit was also designed to be slightly taller than a standard container at 3.2m, to enable ease of access and for the specific requirements of the plant room.
The location for the finished packaged plant room was in a shaded area, under a tree, close to the back of the school. The green colour was chosen to closely match the evergreen trees around it to make it blend in more easily with the background. The 6.8 ton finished unit, required a specialist lift to carry it over the 14m span from accessible car park to final location.
The unit itself was completely fitted out by our own team in-house and contained the main distribution board for light and power as well as two CT circuits and one VT circuit for heating and hot water across the site. It also had to work in conjunction with the existing plant room on site and upgrades to piping throughout the school.
The packaged plant room was connected quickly via a pre-formed junction box to the outside of the unit on one side, again designed to work with the existing pipework in place.
Timescales from our end were quite quick with the full fit out being completed in six weeks for all of the boiler and electrical work.
Phil Higham, Project Manager for this job, speaking about the project said “This was quite an unusual specification and fairly different to others we have done around the UK, but we have done a fair few of them now and know well how they work. It’s a beautiful site over there in North Yorkshire and it was a privilege to get see behind the scenes and understand how the school works”
